About

In the Climate & Fluid Physics Laboratory, we explore various aspects of Earth's climate by way of fluid experiments. The types of processes we focus on are those that cannot be feasibly investigated via alternative approaches; these are processes that are too expensive or complicated to reproduce with computer simulations, too challenging to observed in the real world, or processes that do not yet have mathematical descriptions to explore theoretically.

Our research interests include:

  • Rossby Wave Dynamics
  • Sea Ice Thermodynamics
  • Radiation Effects at the Air-Water Interface
  • Ice-Ocean Interactions
  • Wind-Driven Interfacial Waves
  • Double-Diffusive Mixing

Our experiments runs in a range of different apparatus which include rotating tables, wind-tunnels, temperature-controlled rooms, and thermally-isolated domains.
